I love my work. I get to empower individuals and families during some of their most challenging times. I get to accompany people as they grapple with what it means to be human, in terms of relationships, inner experience, and deep-seated needs.
My areas of expertise are anxiety, depression, ADHD, and OCD. I have extensive experience working with neurodivergent, twice exceptional (2e) individuals with or without autism, as well as young and school-aged children with emotional dysregulation.
I help address issues related to interpersonal relationships, identity exploration and development, perfectionism, burnout, and minority stress. I also help with conditions related to or exacerbated by cultural issues, such as acculturative stress, family expectations and conflict, intergenerational trauma, discrimination, and transracial adoption.
I am flexible in my therapeutic approach and am trained in several forms of psychotherapy, including psychodynamic therapy (including play therapy for young children), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), parent management training (PMT), and supportive parenting for anxious childhood emotions (SPACE). I enjoy collaborating with dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) therapists and programs. In addition, I incorporate therapeutic yoga and mindfulness-based practices when appropriate.
Psychiatric medication is a powerful tool to be wielded with respect. Addressing this aspect of mental health requires strong communication about medication options and the complexities of the potential risks and benefits.
For each new patient, I conduct and complete my own complete assessment prior to speaking to how it leads to my recommendations and initiating any type of treatment.
